Besides being paid while learning at an actual marina, eligible students may choose a MarineMax location for permanent employment upon completion.

Program Details
Based out of Clearwater, FL, MarineMax offers two comprehensive programs to help develop future marine technicians and advance their knowledge and abilities to the next level. One program is designed for those with no experience in the industry, while the other caters to those encompassing a broader understanding and have worked in the field prior. Three-Year MarineMax Marine Service Technician Apprenticeship Program
The MarineMax Marine Service Technician Apprenticeship Program consists of hands-on mentor-led and online self-led training. The program spans three years, with the ability to shorten to 1.5 years with approved experience. The goal is to have the apprentice certified in several systems before program completion. Online learning will include Mercury, Yamaha, Volvo, American Boat & Yacht Council (ABYC), Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) refrigerant management, Dometic products, etc. Each quarter, the apprentice will get a milestone raise, assuming requirements are met. The apprentice will also be eligible to receive a Journeyman Certificate of Competency when complete, which implies the required local government standards have been satisfied. -
Six-Month Student Technician Program
The accelerated six-month Student Technician Program is a hybrid course designed to enhance skills for those who already have a general understanding of working on boats. It includes top-notch instruction with hands-on work next to senior technicians at a marina. In addition, instructor-led and self-paced classroom training is involved, and focus areas include practical boat knowledge, water systems, air conditioning, generators, and Mercury, Yamaha, and Volvo diesel engine training. This program will also cover driving and trailering boats.

Admission Requirements and How to Apply:
Although no other restrictions apply to those interested in the MarineMax Marine Service Technician Apprenticeship Program besides being 18 years of age, to be eligible for the 6-month MarineMax Student Technician Program, you must have one year of marine mechanic experience or a completed marine technician school certificate. If you meet those requirements, applying to the Student Technician Program can be done by submitting a MarineMax employment application, a resume, a transcript from your marine technician program (if applicable), and one professional and one personal reference.
