6 Reasons 2020 Was The Year For Boating
We’re not going to pain you to try to summarize what made 2020 so tough. So instead, let’s look back on this strange year and celebrate 6 reasons (in no particular order) of why 2020 was the year for boating.
-
1. We welcomed numerous newcomers into the boating community.
With family vacations cancelled and the kids home from college, boating was the perfect socially distant activity. New boaters flocked to the water to get some fresh air out of their houses and spend time with loved ones.
-
2. We learned that getting outside and on the water is actually good for you.
Numerous studies show that being on and around the water has tangible benefits and actually increases serotonin, dopamine, and oxytocin — your brain’s “feel-good hormones.”
-
3. We launched two weekly podcast shows.
Boating Tips LIVE (a spin off of our Boating Tips episodes) and From the Helm Boating Broadcast (a revamped version of our monthly video series). With these shows, we’ve been able to educate the boating community, give thought leaders in the industry a platform, introduce our audience to good works going on that are dear to our hearts, and much more.
-
4. MarineMax joined forces with two powerhouses in the industry.
Northrop & Johnson and SkipperBuds. Through these acquisitions, our customers have even greater access to boat selection, an expanded service network, and access to industry-leading customer experiences.
-
5. Boat shopping was made easier.
People shopping for boats realized that they didn’t have to attend a boat show or visit a showroom in person to explore the boat they had their eye on. They could Zoom or Facetime their sales consultant while the consultant toured the boat and pointed out key features. Plus, innovative technologies like the MarineMax online experiences brought the boat show experience to the customers, without them having to leave their couches.
-
6. COVID-19 changed our perspective on what matters most.
These difficult times helped put into perspective that at the end of the day, your loved ones and your health are what are most important. MarineMax is so thankful that we could help be a part of bringing families together on the water in a safe and healthy way.
